On Tuesday, our Year 3s took part in the Day of the African Child at St Patrick’s Primary School. This national celebration takes place in memory of the 16th June 1976 student uprising in Soweto, South Africa, during which hundreds of school children while protesting their poor-quality education, and demanding to be taught in their own languages, lost their lives. The Day of the African Child is celebrated to commemorate these children, honour resilience and continue to champion rights. During the day, children from primary schools across Warwickshire came together to celebrate a variety of African traditions and cultural learnings. They took part in a parade, and participated in traditional story-telling and music. The children had a fantastic time and enjoyed spending the day with children from schools across Warwickshire.
