Unicef Steering Group

As a Rights Respecting School, our Unicef Steering Group play a pivotal role in promoting the The Convention of the Rights of the Child and children’s rights.  The Steering Group is made up of two representatives from Year 1 to Year 6 who attend regular meetings.  The aim of the group is to help all of our pupils:

  • Understand their rights
  • Feel their school listens to and responds to their needs
  • Have a say about decision that affect them
  • Have a global awareness

This term, the Unicef Steering Group have been involved in organising our annual Global Goals Day which involved all pupils taking part in an off timetable day where they gained an understanding of eight different countries from around the world.  The children invited in visitors including parents and governors to lead workshops such as traditional Greek dancing and Portuguese language and artwork.

Currently, the Unicef Steering Group are working on promoting Article 12, the right to be heard.  They have met with Mrs Ashcroft, Mrs McArthur and Miss Sutton to discuss ways in which they can promote the right to be heard.

Our Unicef Steering group supported Helping Hand’s Christmas appeal.
