Newsletter 18th December 2009

08.01.2010

Firstly on behalf of all of the staff, we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

It was lovely to see so many parents at the Foundation and Key Stage 1 performances last week. The production was fantastic – an amazing achievement by the staff and children in just one week of rehearsals! The collections that we made at the end of each performance raised a total of £149.24 for school fund – another amazing achievement! This money will be reinvested to purchase costumes, soundtracks etc. for future productions and £20 of it was used to bring ‘Christmas cheer’ to our lunchtime festivities on Wednesday, with crackers for everyone…thank-you very much for your kind donations.

KS1 & KS2 children enjoyed the pantomime at the Spa Centre on Wednesday afternoon. The children were incredibly well-behaved and made us all very proud to be associated with Clapham Terrace. May I take this opportunity to thank-you for your assistance in the collection arrangements after the performance.

We look forward to a wonderful Carol concert this afternoon led by our KS2 children and hope that many of you will have been able to join us for this celebration.

It is also time to say enormous thank you and goodbye to Mrs Brittain (KS2 teacher) who will be leaving us to head in to retirement. Mrs Brittain has given an enormous amount to Clapham Terrace in the years she has been here, including time as Acting Deputy Head, and will be sadly missed by children, staff, governors and parents. We wish her a happy and successful future.

Ofsted Update
Myself, Mr Parker & Mr Fenton (Chair of Governors) attended a Local Authority Review and Intervention Meeting on Tuesday, where we presented the progress and achievements of the school in meeting the priorities from our last Ofsted inspection report.

It was a pleasure to be able to present such positive news and a wealth of supportive evidence to demonstrate the huge journey we have been on since January, and particularly the acceleration of progress since September following the arrival of Mr Parker and Mrs Beniston onto the Leadership Team. They are both a great asset to our school.

All the staff have worked tremendously hard this term and governors and Local Authority Inspectors alike have monitored and recognised the considerable improvements particularly with regard to teaching and learning and monitoring and improving pupil progress.

As a school we have also made great improvements to communication systems and our engagement with you as parents/carers and the wider community. We are feeling enormously supported by yourselves through meetings and feedback comments, attendance at Learning Reviews, Curriculum workshops, International Afternoons, performances and HSA events.

Your willingness to support changes that we’ve introduced and to support your children through volunteering, help with homework, providing resources and fundraising has raised spirits and brought a real community drive to ensuring that Clapham Terrace is a place to be proud of.

The hard work continues and there are many exciting challenges that lie ahead, including the still awaited Ofsted Inspection. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership to bring about ongoing improvements and hope that 2010 is a really successful year for our school.

May I wish you a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.  Download full newsletter here.

Fundraising at Clapham Terrace

We have a strong support network of staff and parents who are dedicated to raising extra funds to buy the things that school budgets can't stretch to.  From redesigning the school library to making over the playground the HSA (PTA) are always on the look out for new fundraising ideas.
