Welcome to Year 6

Class Teacher:  Mrs C.  Ashcroft

Week beginning 30th January 2017

This week we have been using the microscopes in science.  We looked at colour coded slides which had parts of insects, animals and plants.  We then had to draw them using the naked eye, a magnifying glass and the microscopes and compare them.

Our topic for the Spring Term is the Mayans

On Wednesday 4th January Year 6 had a Mayan Day.  They made masks form modroc and cooked salsa and guacamole.  The masks are plain at the moment they just need to be painted.  They are 3 types of masks, death, celebration and battle.

Our Topic for the Autum Term was World War II

Rosie has written a report for the local paper - The Coventry Observer - 15th November 1940

Blitz Baddness !

Here in Coventry the blitz has gone off! We're all very sad to hear that more than 500 people have died.  Many are families and friends.  John Peters said "it's terrible, my house has burnt down.  I am extremely lucky to survive!"

They're are many homes burnt down! Lots of people are homeless.

Mary Ann said "As soon as I heard the siren go I got my gas mask and went into my Morrison Shelter, where I felt safe".

11 long hours with many going to the underground.  Many people are heart broken by the feeling of the cathedral burning down as its very important to them.

The cathedral lit up in flames and people were crying.

Equipment Needed:-

PE is on a Tuesday and Friday:  PE Kit should be left in school and can be taken home to be washed at the end of each Half Term.

Children should bring in a water bottle which they have access to in the classroom.

Children have been given a new reading folder and diary; this should be in school on a daily basis as volunteers may hear children read at any time.

Homework Days

In Year 6, it is essential that children complete homework tasks to support their learning in class and to prepare them for secondary school.

Monday - Fortnightly Home Learning Project in for the following Thursday

Tuesday & Thursday - Numeracy tasks will be set from the children's own CPG books and will be marked in class on Friday.

Wednesday - Weekly SPAG Homework

Friday - The children have a spelling test every Friday.  They MUST have their yellow books in school on a Friday to receive their new spelling for the following week.

Reading - Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week with a parent/carer.

Fundraising at Clapham Terrace

We have a strong support network of staff and parents who are dedicated to raising extra funds to buy the things that school budgets can't stretch to.  From redesigning the school library to making over the playground the HSA (PTA) are always on the look out for new fundraising ideas.
